After Care Instructions

After Teeth Whitening the enamel pores usually remain open for up to 24 hours after treatment. It is therefore recommended that only white food and drink are consumed over this period to avoid re-staining as per the food and drink suggestions below:

  • Do not eat or drink dark, staining substances such as: coffee, tea, red wine, soy sauce, and cola.
  • Do not eat staining foods such as: beetroot, carrots, blueberries and the like; try to stick to a “white” diet such as Fish, Chicken, Potatoes and Cauliflower
  • Do not smoke cigarettes or use any tobacco-containing products.
  • Do not use coloured toothpaste

Sensitivity and Gum Irritation

If you’re already a sufferer of tooth or gum sensitivity, then sensitivity is more likely to occur during and/or after your teeth whitening treatment.  We do our very best to combat sensitivity during the procedure but in some people it’s unavoidable, the good news is the effect is temporary and there are options to reduce the pain.

What to do if you experience tooth sensitivity

Desensitising Toothpastes such as Sensodyne® contains Potassium Nitrate which relieves hypersensitivity by blocking the nerve impulse within a tooth, rub a little onto the affected tooth/teeth when needed.  Worst case scenario you may need to take an over-the-counter analgesic (such as Ibuprofen).

What to do if you experience gum irritation

To relieve gum sensitivity over-the-counter product such as ‘Orajel’ or ‘Bonjela’ can provide instant relief.  Rub a little on the affected area with a cotton-bud and avoid irritating the area further when brushing over the next few days.
